Who Are You Writing For?

“Are your writing for yourself or your readers?”

After working on several client’s projects and several of my own; it boils down to this… Once the pencils have sketched the layout, the designs have been drawn and the color has been filed; the letters are next to tell the story. You ask yourself, who is this story geared to? Is this a story that could be told over and over to future generations? Or is this a quick one shot that I needed to make fast cash.
Many things sound better in your head than it does on page. Rather, if you create it on computer screen or on paper (traditional), it all comes down to the story. Does this story moves you? Does this story gives people new ideas or a new way of thinking? These questions you ask yourself while you’re creating your comic book or graphic novel project.
There are a lot for trends and fads out there; that are very easy to fall into. Such as gay rights or diversity standards. It is okay to stand up for equal rights and to fight what you believe in. But what you also must do is keep in touch with your story. Don’t loose sight on what you’re trying to say; just so you can place something in your story because “it’s the now thing”. Stay true to the art.
Those are my thoughts on today’s Comic’s Den. Also, please purchase my volumes of Beyond the Pages Vol. 1 & 2 at Lulu.com.
